SALT LAKE CITY — Police are investigating the early Thursday morning death of a man in Salt Lake City as a homicide.

Police responded to a report of a fight near 797 E. Northcliffe Drive about 1:16 a.m., according to an emailed statement from Salt Lake police. When they arrived, they found 40-year-old Corey Haney dead, according to the statement.

A person who police say may have been connected to the fight was still at the scene and was taken to an area hospital for treatment, according to the statement. That person's name was not immediately released.

Few details about the man's death were available Thursday. Salt Lake police detective Michael Ruff said the people involved in the fight knew each other. Police had located all the parties involved by Thursday afternoon, so there was no danger to the public, Ruff said.

Ruff was not sure if Haney was a local person. He did not have any other information about the fight. This story will be updated if more information becomes available.
