CLEARFIELD — Police have identified a man who died after an early-morning crash Monday in Clearfield, officials said.
Chad Fisher, 32, of Clearfield, was identified as the driver killed in the accident, Clearfield police said.
A Layton police officer drove upon the accident about 5:50 a.m. at the intersection of state Route 193 and H Street, and called Clearfield police, according to Clearfield Police Assistant Chief Kelly Bennett. Fisher was driving a white Chrysler 300 north on S.R. 193 when his vehicle collided with a 1970 Kaiser, a part military surplus vehicle, that was traveling east on H Street.
Fisher was in extremely critical condition and died at the scene, Bennett said. Ian Soelberg, 38, of Clearfield, was identified as the driver of the Kaiser. He suffered serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
Westbound S.R. 193 was reopened about 10 a.m. after being closed for four hours, police said.
Bennet said investigators interviewed a witness at the scene of the accident who indicated Fisher failed to stop at the red light and was T-boned by the Kaiser on the driver's side.
"Our thoughts are with all those involved, especially with the family of the deceased," Clearfield police said in a tweet.
