LAKE POWELL — A Colorado man is presumed dead after he fell off a boat on Lake Powell near Iceberg Canyon Saturday afternoon, officials said.

Emergency crews received a distress call of a man overboard in an area about 15 miles south of Bullfrog, Kane County shortly before 2 p.m., according to Mary Plumb, public information officer for the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.

Plumb said Daniel Patrick McGuckin, 41, of Avon, Colorado, was on a houseboat with eight friends traveling to Bullfrog when he jumped off the boat without a life jacket and didn’t resurface. Others on the boat McGuckin was on tried to locate him for 25 minutes when the distress call was given.

Four National Park Service vessels responded to the location McGuckin was last seen, Plumb said. Kane County Sheriff’s and Utah State Parks authorities also assisted, but officials were unable to find the man, she added.

Officials continued recovery operations Tuesday, but have not found McGuckin, Plumb said, and the incident is under investigation.
