Update: On Monday, April 6, authorities identified the man killed in the March 31 accident as Francisco F Flores-Maclovio, age 39, of St. George.

ST. GEORGE — A man died after his car lost control and swerved off the highway on state Route 18 near St. George on Tuesday evening, according to police.

Around 6:20 p.m. Tuesday, a man driving a white Infinity sedan was traveling northbound on state Route 18 just past Red Hills Parkway when the car swerved to the left side of the road, crossing the southbound lanes. "As the vehicle slid off the highway and into the dirt, it rolled more than once and came to rest on its roof," a Utah Highway Patrol press statement said.

Rescue crews extracted the driver from the car but he died from his injuries. The man, later identified as Francisco F Flores-Maclovio, age 39, of St. George, was the only occupant in the vehicle, officials said.

Witnesses reported seeing the car driving "at a very high rate of speed," faster than the 55 miles per hour speed limit. "Based on evidence at the crash scene, alcohol and speed both appear to be factors," the UHP statement said.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
