SALT LAKE CITY — A Brigham City man who already had a no-bail warrant out for his arrest in northern Utah when he allegedly led police in southern Utah on a high-speed chase in a stolen car while driving on the wrong side of the road now faces new charges.

On Oct. 24, a Monticello police officer was called to a convenience store on a report of a suspicious vehicle. The officer spotted the vehicle and followed it. While doing so, he discovered there was a stolen license plate on it, according to a police affidavit.

The officer pulled the car over. Christopher Lewis Aull, 38, told the officer he did not have his driver’s license and then gave him a false name and birthdate, the affidavit states.

“The driver stated that he just got out of prison and did not want to go back. I advised the driver to turn the vehicle off,” the officer wrote in the report. “I then advised him that I was going to be checking the VIN number and if he started the vehicle he was going to be in trouble.”

The car was determined to be stolen out of Blackfoot, Idaho, the affidavit states. While the officer was collecting that information, Aull allegedly started the car and took off. Caylund Georgette, 27, of Salt Lake City, was in the passenger seat.

Aull reach speeds of 100 mph as he tried to flee on state Route 191, police say.

“During the pursuit the vehicle crossed over into the northbound lane while traveling south still. The vehicle did this multiple times during the pursuit. The vehicle tried to go around construction barrels in a construction zone and disregarded the traffic control device in two different construction zones,” the affidavit states.

Once the chase entered Blanding, the officer stopped pursuing the suspects due to public safety.

The next day, a resident called police to report he found a vehicle in his barn. Documents with Aull and Georgette’s names were found in the car as well as a receipt from the Family Dollar store in Monticello, according to the report. Detectives checked the store’s surveillance camera and took still pictures from the video.

Those photos were posted on the Blanding Facebook page, and on Saturday, a resident reported to police that the couple had just walked past their house. Police spotted the two walking along a street and arrested them.

Aull told police he was headed to Louisiana and did not want to go back to prison, the affidavit states.

Aull was charged Tuesday in Monticello’s 7th District Court with possessing a stolen vehicle, a second-degree felony; failing to stop for police, two counts of burglary, obstructing justice, possession of a weapon by a restricted person and drug possession, all third-degree felonies; false identification, a class A misdemeanor; reckless driving, possession of burglary tools, theft, criminal mischief and possession of drug paraphernalia, all class B misdemeanors; driving on a suspended license and using someone else’s license plate, both class C misdemeanors; and several infractions including going 100 mph in a 65 mph zone, and three other traffic violations.

Georgette was charged with possessing a stolen vehicle, a second-degree felony; failing to stop for police, two counts of burglary, obstructing justice, all third-degree felonies; drug possession, a class A misdemeanor; possession of burglary tools, theft, possession of drug paraphernalia, and criminal mischief, all class B misdemeanors; and using someone else’s license plate, a class C misdemeanor.

In August, Aull was charged in Box Elder County’s 1st District Court with aggravated kidnapping, sexual battery and assault. A warrant was issued for his arrest in that case on Oct. 17.
