STREAMTOWN — Every month we get a new batch of titles on Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. Some months are chock-full of great new titles, other months seem like a ghost town of interesting titles, and some months are August 2019 — where we have a couple of really great standouts and then some that are just OK.

Here are the 7 best new streaming titles on Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime:

Netflix

Groundhog Day” Available now

Bill Murray is a national treasure at this point, and one of his best and, quite frankly, most underrated films is "Groundhog Day." This movie is clever, poignant and hilarious. I get on a soapbox about the Academy Awards and how they are elitist and miss some of the truly great films, and those diatribes are often started when someone brings up "Groundhog Day."

The script to this film is nothing short of brilliant and it's a crime it wasn't nominated.

Rocky” I-IV Available now

They have the first five Rocky films on Netflix now. How do I not mention that? Get your America on this weekend and spend some quality time with the Italian Stallion.

Hulu

Man on a Ledge” Available now

I feel like Hulu is the big winner in August with new titles, and one of those is "Man on Ledge." This 2012 thriller isn't a great movie, but it's some fun entertainment for 90 minutes or so.

The film stars Sam Worthington as an ex-con who is threatening to jump from a building, but he's really a diversion for a diamond heist.

Meet the Parents” Available now

Want awkward comedy at its best? Look no further than Hulu and its new title "Meet the Parents." Laugh, cringe and relive all the moments you wanted to forget about Greg Focker and Jack Byrnes.

Mission: Impossible - Fallout” Aug. 23

Here is the big-ticket item. I am a sucker for the "Mission: Impossible" franchise, and "Fallout" may just be the best of the bunch. The movie is an absolute blast and manages to make your palms sweaty, your blood pressure rise, and your breath catch.

Lucky for those with Amazon Prime: that streaming service is also getting "Mission: Impossible - Fallout" in August.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” Aug. 28

The last chapter in the "How to Train Your Dragon" franchise is now headed to Hulu. "The Hidden World" may not have the same impact and charm as the original, but it's a really fantastic film for both kids and adults, and makes for an incredibly satisfying cap to the franchise.

Amazon Prime

Jim Gaffigan: Quality Time” Available now

Feel like laughing tonight? Then Amazon Prime has you covered. Comedian Jim Gaffigan has a new special exclusively on Prime, and it's a riot. Gaffigan has always been a cut above, but his new observations on being a dad, traveling and an absurdly long bit on horses will have you hitting the pause button so you can stop laughing in order to hear the next joke.
