STREAM TOWN — It’s a new month, which means there is a new batch of titles on your favorite streaming platforms.
Some months are stronger than others, and I have to say this is not the strongest of months. There are a few gems here and there, as well as a couple of titles you maybe haven’t seen but should give a shot.
Here are six new streaming titles worth checking out this May:
“Dumb and Dumber” (Available now)
Those who were born around the same time as me and who were adolescents around 1994 likely love “Dumb and Dumber.”
The movie is totally absurd. Over 20 years later, I still hear this film quoted on nearly a daily basis. It's impossible for me to walk into a 7-Eleven and not say, “Big Gulps huh? Well, see you later.”
Has the movie held up over time? Now you can find out because it is streaming on Netflix.
“Gremlins” (Available now)
This one is a blast to the past. Ten years before we got Harry and Lloyd in “Dumb and Dumber,” we got Billy Peltzer and Gizmo in “Gremlins.”
You can now watch the movie, which is one of the strangest Christmas films ever made, on Netflix.
The film is an odd journey including furry little animals that come with a lot of rules and even more side effects. This is a nostalgia film for me and will forever be seen as a classic in my eyes.
“The Green Mile” (Available now)
Frank Darabont is a fantastic filmmaker, but he is at his absolute best when he’s working from Stephen King’s source material.
Darabont made one of Hollywood’s best films in “The Shawshank Redemption” in 1994. Five years later, Darabont didn’t strike gold with “The Green Mile” like he did with Shawshank, but he got pretty close.
The movie is a beautiful and haunting tale told expertly with phenomenal performances from Tom Hanks and Michael Clarke Duncan, as well as a criminally underrated performance from Sam Rockwell.
“The Green Mile” is rated R for violence, language and some sex-related material.
“WarGames” (Available now)
We’ve already taken a trip to 1984 with “Gremlins.” Why not go back one more year for “WarGames"?
The tech in this film is now outdated, but it doesn’t make it any less fun. I remember this film putting the fear in me of the threat of World War III while also sparking my interest in computer hacking.
That spark ended pretty quick when I realized I couldn’t even type five words a minute. If you haven’t seen the film before, you won’t be as excited as me and my fellow “WarGames” fans — but you still might enjoy this 35-year-old movie.

“Fun Size” (May 31)
Yes, “Fun Size” only scored 25 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and an audience score of 47 percent, but I don’t care. Is this teen comedy about a sister who loses her little brother on Halloween night, and costars Johnny Knoxville, good? No, of course not, but it is actually pretty funny.
Not many people have seen this movie, but I think a few might appreciate it so I’m going out on a limb and letting you all know it will be streaming on Amazon Prime at the end of the month. “Silicon Valley” actor Thomas Middleditch makes this not-great movie worth watching.
“The ‘Burbs” (May 31)
I’ve gone down the nostalgia road a few times on this list, and I’m about to do it again, this time with “The ‘Burbs.”
This 1989 Tom Hanks comedy is ridiculous and I love it. The movie is so quotable and has so many laugh-out-loud moments. I’ve seen this movie a thousand times and I promise you I’m going to watch it again later this month when it starts streaming on Amazon Prime.
