THE CINEMA — The summer movie season is officially behind us and we got some real gems this year.

We got a real surprise and some chills with “A Quiet Place.” We were taken on the superhero trip for the ages with “Avengers: Infinity War. We had our hearts stop and our adrenaline peak with “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” and had a great family trip to the theater with “Incredibles 2.”

All in all, it was a pretty solid summer movie season, but the last few weeks have been "meh" at best. Don’t worry — all of that is about to change with some really great and intriguing titles heading to theaters this fall and winter.

Here's a month-to-month guide for the rest of the year pointing out some of the more intriguing titles coming out and why we’re looking forward to them, or why I’m just really curious about them.

September

The Predator” (Sept. 14)

This first pick in September is really a nostalgic pick for me. My parents showed me the Arnold Schwarzenegger classic “Predator” when I was way too young, but I loved it and my older brother and I watched it about a thousand times.

It’s because of that I’m curious about “The Predator” and what writer/director Shane Black has done with it. Black is known for writing “Lethal Weapon” and both writing and directing “Iron Man 3” and “The Other Guys.” Black was even a character in the original “Predator.”

Black has a dark sense of humor that could play brilliantly into the Predator universe, and who doesn’t like watching some alien mayhem?

“The Predator” is rated R for strong bloody violence, language throughout, and crude sexual references.

The House With a Clock In Its Walls” (Sept. 21)

I am a sucker for kid-horror movies. I loved “Goosebumps” from 2015 and I grew up with movies like “Gremlins” and “Arachnophobia.” That’s why I’m looking forward to “A House With a Clock In Its Walls.”

The movie stars Jack Black and Cate Blanchett who take in a young orphan who help them locate a clock with the power to end the world. The trailer makes this look like a fun movie for the family perfect for getting in the Halloween mood.

October

Venom” (Oct. 5)

I can’t say the trailers for “Venom” have made me super excited about the super anti-hero movie, but this will be one of the biggest releases of the fall and many are curious how the movie will be.

Tom Hardy plays Eddie Brock in the film and his star power along with the popularity of Venom will draw crowds into the cinema, but will the movie be any good? We’ll have to wait and see.

First Man” (Oct. 12)

Director Damien Chazelle won an Academy Award for his superb direction in “La La Land.” Following that film, people were eager to find out what his next film would be. That follow-up film is “First Man” and it’s headed to theaters in October.

“First Man” stars Ryan Gosling as Neil Armstrong and tells the story of the astronaut’s historic trip to the moon. With Gosling as the lead and Chazelle behind the camera, this could end up being one of the best films of 2018.

November

Bohemian Rhapsody” (Nov. 2)

Queen is an iconic rock band and front man Freddie Mercury has arguably the greatest rock voice of all time. The story of their rise to fame with their unconventional approach to rock and roll has now been committed to film.

The trailer for “Bohemian Rhapsody” makes this look like a highly entertaining biopic with some toe-tapping songs and heart-wrenching moments. Rami Malek has seemed to capture Mercury’s essence and many of us are hoping the film does the music of Queen justice.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” (Nov. 16)

I don’t have a lot to say about “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” other than I’m really excited to see it.

The first film was a pleasant surprise and many of us are looking forward to more of the same. It just feels right to have a Harry Potter universe film in theaters in November, and we’re happy 2018 will oblige.

Creed II” (Nov. 21)

The 2015 film “Creed” was one of the biggest surprises of the year. The movie included fantastic performances, masterful direction and an engrossing story as the legacy of Rocky Balboa continued on in the shoes of Apollo Creed’s son.

The sequel is headed to theaters this fall and we’re staying cautiously optimistic about it.

According to the trailer, the film seems to keep the tone of the first movie, but it’s also dancing a delicate line of falling into “Rocky IV” territory where it’s no longer a good movie, but a bit of a silly one that’s still fun.

Ralph Breaks the Internet” (Nov. 21)

2012’s “Wreck-It Ralph” is now a family favorite for many and the adventures of Ralph are about to continue with “Ralph Breaks the Internet.”

The new family adventure follows Ralph and Vanellope through a Wi-Fi router into the Internet itself. Then it sounds like Ralph probably breaks it.

December

Mary Poppins Returns” (Dec. 19)

More than 44 years after “Mary Poppins” flew into theaters, she is back. This time Emily Blunt plays the perfect nanny and is now helping an adult Michael with his kids.

The teaser trailer doesn’t give us much, but knowing Disney and how loved this character is, I think this is one families can mark on their calendars.

Aquaman” (Dec. 21)

The DC universe has had some missteps, but that’s not stopping from them plowing ahead.

Next up for the superhero universe is “Aquaman.” The Comic-Con trailer fell flat for me, but it received a pretty good response and DC is hoping you all make it out to the theater to see this big-budget superhero flick.

Welcome to Marwen” (Dec. 21)

Robert Zemeckis, director of “Back to the Future,” “Cast Away” and “Forrest Gump” has a new film this year that has the potential to be one of 2018's best.

“Welcome to Marwen” is based on the true story of a man, played by Steve Carell, who finds a unique therapeutic outlet to help him through the recovery process following a brutal attack.

If the movie can keep up with the emotion, heart and soul the two-and-a-half minute trailer does, then we’re all in for a real treat. Plan on bringing your box of tissues to this one because it’s sure to elicit a tear or two.

What other movies are you looking forward to in the remaining months of 2018? Let us know in the comments.
