PARADISE — Sometimes getting away from it all can sound really appealing.
Have you ever wanted to escape from humanity, from technology or maybe just from your annoying neighbors (#sorrynotsorry)? If you have, this guy might just be living your dream.
Since 1989, Mauro Morandi has lived on the small, Italian island of Budelli after he took over as the caretaker — and sole inhabitant — of the island. Since then, he's built a life for himself along the beautiful, secluded beaches that can only be reached by boat.
Morandi explains in the video that he's watched over the past several years as visitors to the island have taken bits of the pristine pink beach away with them, and the beach has started to lose its color.
"It took 10,000 years to make this beach. Mankind has destroyed it in 20," he says in the video.

It’s soothing. It’s fascinating. It’s impressive.Morandi also has to be a bit resourceful to enjoy some of the regular amenities we take for granted. He built himself solar panels for electricity and he collects rainwater to drink because there's no groundwater on the island.
Still, Morandi says, "beauty is where there are no people," and he loves his life on the beautiful shores of Budelli.
"My choice was to live in direct contact with nature," Morandi says. "To start living in a different way — what I believe life should be."
