THE MALL — How much would you pay for a pair of Payless shoes?

$20? $40? $600?

You might be laughing at that last suggestion, but if these influencers know what they're talking about, the bargain brand shoes might just be worth that much.

Just in time for the holidays, Payless uploaded a video to YouTube Wednesday that explains what happened when the brand opened a fake luxury shoe store called "Palessi" and invited a bunch of influencers to shop there.

"They're elegant; sophisticated," one of the shoppers says as she holds up a pair of heels at the "luxury" brand's grand opening party. Little does she know, she's about to pay about a thousand percent more for the shoes than how much they are typically sold.

Yesterday's Have You Seen This?

Though this stunt was obviously all done for Payless' holiday ad campaign, the video explains that those featured are all real people, not actors. And they really did pay that much for the shoes. According to AdWeek, "Palessi" actually sold about $3,000 worth of merchandise during the event, but eventually, the influencers got their money back. Payless made sure to refund them — that is, after catching their reactions as they discovered they just paid top dollar for $20 shoes.

Watch the video to see it all go down, and enjoy your holiday shopping this year, but be careful to not fall for any pranks or brand shenanigans of this sort.
