Techies, gamers, and professionals are taking Salt Lake City by storm this month with The Silicon Slopes Tech Summit. The two-day event, including the Slopes Arcade, kicks off Jan. 30 at the Salt Palace.
The nickname for the Wasatch Front in the business world — Silicon Slopes — refers to the booming tech scene growing in Utah. In fact, according to the University of Utah, tech accounts for one in every seven Utah jobs.
Whether or not you’re currently a part of the tech industry, there are myriad reasons gamers and techies will have a great time at this year’s Slopes Arcade.
There's money on the table
At the Slopes Arcade Invitational, professional gamers will compete for a prize pool of $15,000. According to the Arcade website, "Professional Esports players will compete in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and prove their craft to some of the largest companies in the world in front of a global online audience."
If you want to watch this spectacle of professionals dueling it out in the classic video game, tickets are only $25.
High schoolers can participate
At the High School Showdown, all current junior high and high school students can participate in the tournmanet for prize money and clout. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the name of the game — and it's only open to Utah high school students with a valid ID. There is no cost to enter this event.
Not only will each high school competitor have access to the Slopes Arcade, they will also have complete access to the Silicon Slopes Tech Summit and sponsor pavilions.
Represent your company and win
If you're looking for a way to take down your friendly rival, look no further. Companies can sign up their best gamers to enter the Corporate Clash event — a gaming tournament with a cash prize. Company employees can battle it out in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for bragging rights and prize money.
So far, many of the competitors are coming from companies such as Divvy, NICE inContact, Domo and LiveView. If you think you or your employees have what it takes to win, be sure to sign up soon. Registration for this event closes January 25.
Meet professional gamers and see new tech
Not only will you and your peers be at the Arcade, but Utah's best gamers will be there to mingle, play and have a good time. So if you want to literally play with the best, be sure to sign up before the deadline passes. Check out the Slopes Arcade website for more details.
From 2-6 p.m. on January 30 and 31st, you can enjoy a bunch of throwback arcade games and check out an array of new tech on display.
