SPANISH FORK — Property owners in some areas that were evacuated because of the Coal Hollow Fire were officially allowed to return early Friday morning.

Some evacuation orders were shifted and an area west of Mapleton and north of the fire in Spanish Fork Canyon was downgraded from mandatory evacuation to pre-evacuation status, fire officials said Friday. That allowed residents to return to their properties, but they could be evacuated again if the fire picks up.

Diamond Fork Road also officially reopened early Friday morning.

Meanwhile, the fast-moving North Eden Fire east of Bear Lake has now scorched at least 14,000 acres since it sparked Thursday afternoon, according to Utah Fire Info. It reached Utah’s borders with Idaho and Wyoming Thursday evening.

The fire also destroyed two firefighting vehicles Thursday.
