CLINTON, Davis County — Fire officials responded to a detonation on a front porch in Clinton Wednesday after children in the area found two homemade explosive devices they thought were Pokemon balls.

The children found one device in a gravel area near 1360 north and 2660 west between two houses and the other in the street near a storm drain, according to Clinton City Fire Chief David Olsen.

The children showed the devices to their parents who didn't know what they were either, Olsen said. The kids left the devices on the front porch and went inside when one of the devices suddenly exploded.

The detonation caused little damage to the home but could have caused significant damage to a human, according to Olsen.

The Davis County Bomb Squad secured the area and placed the neighborhood on shelter-in-place protocol, Olsen said. The squad did a safety sweep of the area but did not find any other explosive devices.

The shelter-in-place has since been lifted.

Detectives are investigating the origin of the devices and are asking the public to call the Davis County Sheriff's Office at 801-451-4150 if they have any information or find similar devices.
