SALT LAKE CITY — Summer usually starts with lots of fun in the sun, then often turns into lounging on the couch during the later months. Luckily, there are several easy ways to have fun as a family this summer, while also making a difference in the community.

Regal Summer Movie Express

If you have a Regal movie theater close to you, take advantage of their cheap summer movies. They are playing a variety of family-friendly movies every Tuesday and Wednesday throughout the summer for only $1, and even better, a portion of each admission will go to the Will Rogers Institute.

TRAK Challenge (Team Random Acts of Kindness Challenge)

The TRAK Challenge is a team kindness scavenger hunt that you can do anywhere in the world. For each act of kindness that you complete and post about on social media, you will earn points. The challenge ends July 28 and prizes will be awarded to the team with the most points.

Each team will also have the opportunity to raise money for Operation Underground Railroad to help fight human trafficking.

Utah Foster Care Chalk Art Festival

  • June 15-17
  • The Gateway, 400 W. 100 South, Salt Lake City
Artists of all ages can participate in the Utah Foster Care's Annual Chalk Art Festival at The Gateway. Experience a gallery of spectacular sidewalk murals that include 3-D art, as well as kid's activities, food trucks and a special 801 Rocks display. The event is free and benefits Utah children in foster care.

Dance Fest: A Dance Festival For a Cause

  • Saturday, June 16
  • Discovery Gateway Children's Museum, 444 W. 100 South, Salt Lake City
The Dance Fest is a fundraiser for building libraries in Ghana. Come join Miss Africa Utah and some of her runners-up to raise money for Village Book Builders. You can participate in the dance competition or just watch the show.

Bands for Refugees

  • Saturday, June 16
  • Draper Amphitheater, 944 E. Vestry Road, Draper
Hosted by nonprofit organization, Their Story Is Our Story, The Bands for Refugees showcases talented artists and bands for an evening of music, food and a shared compassion for refugees. You can help raise money and awareness to help local refugees.

Millie's Princess Foundation Run

  • Saturday, June 16
  • SoDa Row, 11274 S. Kestrel Rise Road, South Jordan
The 2018 Millie's Princess Foundation Run will help raise money for two families fighting childhood cancer. All proceeds will go toward the local families. There will be a 5K, 2K, princesses, bounce houses, food trucks and more at the event.

Orion's Army Laser Tag Fundraiser

  • Monday, July 16
  • Laser Quest, 7202 S. 900 East, Midvale
Come play four hours of laser tag and enjoy great vendors and food. The event will raise funds for cystic fibrosis awareness and research. This facility is handicap accessible.

Syncing for a Cure

  • Wednesday, Aug. 22
  • Mountain Ridge Assisted Living & Memory Care, 1885 E. Skyline Drive, South Ogden
If your family enjoys lip syncing, consider signing up for this fun show that will raise money and awareness for the Alzheimer's Association.
