UPDATE: Police on Monday identified the man taken into custody as Michael Pope.

CLINTON — A man is in custody Sunday evening after multiple law enforcement agencies responded to a home in Clinton where they believed a person involved in an earlier incident in Roy was located and possibly armed.

Police found the man they were looking for inside a detached shed on a property near 2475 West and 2300 North in Clinton and used tear gas to get him out, according to Roy police officer Stuart Hackworth.

The man was taken into custody without incident and received basic medical treatment for injuries he suffered from the tear gas, Hackworth said.

The search for the man stemmed from a domestic incident that began in West Haven about 11:30 a.m. Sunday and continued on to Roy, Hackworth said. During the incident, an assault took place and resulted in minor injuries.

Hackworth said children were present during that assault and that a gun was involved, with one shot fired. No one else was injured during the incident and no one was injured from the shooting, he confirmed.

Officers were called to the scene of the assault in Roy but the man had left by the time they arrived. Police spent several hours trying to locate the man and eventually tracked him to an address in Clinton.

The man was not armed when police found him in the shed but they took precautions at the scene since a weapon was involved in the earlier incident.

Responding agencies included Layton SWAT, the Roy Police Department, the Clinton Police Department and the Davis County Sheriff’s Office.

As of Sunday night, Roy police were questioning the man and had not released his name.
