EDEN, Weber County — A man died after the side-by-side he was driving rolled over onto him on Saturday evening, officials said.

The 19-year-old man was driving a UTV with his 18-year-old brother as a passenger when he lost control of the vehicle, Weber County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Chad Allen said. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and it rolled over him, Allen said.

The accident took place about 8:54 p.m. Saturday at Sunridge, a private area along the middle fork of the Ogden River, northeast of Pineview Reservoir in Weber County, Allen said.

The driver’s injuries were internal, Allen said. After the accident, he and his brother made it back to their campground at Sunridge, where they decided to start taking the injured person to a hospital via a private vehicle, Allen said.

While en route, the boy started to go unconscious, so a medical helicopter was dispatched to Sunridge, Allen said. When medical personnel arrived, they worked with the injured person for about 50 minutes, but he did not survive his injuries, Allen said.

The 18-year-old brother was not injured, he added.

Allen did not know if the driver was wearing a seatbelt or a helmet during the crash. He said alcohol is not suspected to be a factor. He did not release the name of the person who died.
