CLEARFIELD — Two people were critically injured and two others were transported to a hospital after a woman driving a stolen van crashed at an intersection while evading officers, police said.

Emergency crews responded to a report of a crash near 300 North and 1000 West about 7 a.m., according to Clearfield Police Assistant Chief Kelly Bennett.

Bennett said a pursuit began when a Clinton police officer spotted a 1995 Chevy van reported stolen out of Ogden and attempted to pull it over, but the driver sped off. Police pursued the vehicle into Clearfield before the driver ran a red light and collided with a 1999 GMC Sierra pickup truck.

The pickup then collided with a 2012 Honda Civic and the van also hit a 2002 Buick LeSabre at the intersection.

A woman driving the van and a man who was a passenger inside the stolen van were each transported to a hospital in critical condition, Bennett said. He added a woman inside the van and a man driving the LeSabre were each transported to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.

Two others were treated at the scene and released and a fourth passenger inside the van was taken into custody for a probation violation, Bennett added. The names and ages of everyone involved were not immediately released.

The crash closed the road between 250 N. 500 West and Barlow Street and 1000 West while police investigated the chase and crash, but the street reopened late Monday morning.

Multiple agencies were assisting in the investigation, Bennett said. Clearfield police are investigating the crash along with Utah Highway Patrol and Clinton police were investigating the stolen vehicle and the pursuit.

Several other police and emergency response teams from surrounding cities also assisted, Bennett added.
