MURRAY — A man is dead after he crashed his car on I-15, ran out of the car and was hit by several vehicles early Saturday morning, officials said.

The man was traveling south on I-15 at 3900 South in a Hyundai Sonata about 1:30 a.m Saturday, Utah Highway Patrol officials reported via the agency’s website.

For an unknown reason, the car veered to the right and hit the concrete barrier on the highway. The car then veered back to the left, hitting the barrier on the left side of the road.

The man then got out of the car and tried to run west across all lanes of the highway, UHP officials said.

Several cars hit him as he ran across traffic. He died at the scene from his injuries, UHP officials said. The crash briefly closed two lanes of the freeway.

Officials have not released the man’s name because they are still notifying his family members. He was the only person in the Hyundai.
