SALT LAKE CITY — A familiar name is coming to Utah.

The Utah Jazz are signing G-League point guard David Stockton, son of NBA Hall of Fame guard John Stockton, to a 10-day contract. The news was first reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

> One of the most interesting 10-day contract deals in recent years: The Utah Jazz are signing David Stockton today, league sources tell ESPN. He is the son of Hall of Fame guard John Stockton. David has been playing in Reno of G League. > > — Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) [March 16, 2018](https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/974759113329651713?ref_src=twsrc^tfw)

Stockton has played 39 games in Reno, the G-League affiliate of the Sacramento Kings. There, he has scored 16.3 points and dished out 5.6 assists per contest. He's proven to be a quality shooter, making 40 percent of his 3-point shots and 45 percent overall.

The 26-year-old Gonzaga graduate also spent a portion of the 2014-15 season with the Kings, playing three NBA games and accumulating 33 minutes of NBA playing time. Since then, the 5-11, 165 lb guard has spent his career in the G League, save for a 22-game international stint in Croatia and New Zealand.

The signing comes in the wake of point guard injuries for the Jazz. Backup point guard Raul Neto was diagnosed with a fractured left wrist and will miss the next several games at least due to the injury. Meanwhile, Ricky Rubio was listed as questionable on the Jazz's injury report Friday due to a knee contusion suffered against the Phoenix Suns on Thursday. Dante Exum played his first game of the 2017-18 regular season on Thursday, coming back from a separated shoulder, but the Jazz still clearly need help at the PG position.

The news came with more fanfare than the usual 10-day contract, thanks to the Stockton name value throughout Utah. John Stockton was the NBA's all-time leader in assists and steals, a 10-time All-Star, and two-time Olympian in a 19-year career spent in a Jazz uniform. Michael Stockton, David Stockton's brother, played for the Jazz briefly during summer league after a collegiate career with the Westminster Griffins.

John Stockton's No. 12 is retired in the rafters of Vivint Arena. David Stockton typically wears No. 11 when playing for Reno, and wore No. 22 when playing for the Kings.

David Stockton will wear No. 5 with the Jazz.
