PROVO — A motorist was critically injured after the vehicle they were driving hit a wall on U.S. 189 before it was struck by another vehicle Friday afternoon, troopers said.

Utah Highway Patrol responded to a report of a crash about three miles southeast of Provo before 4 p.m., according to UHP trooper Jared Cornia.

Cornia said a car traveling west on the highway crossed into the other lane and hit a wall. The car was then T-boned by another car in the eastbound lane.

The motorist was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

The crash temporarily closed two lanes of the highway, according to Utah Department of Transportation officials.

It wasn't immediately known if weather factored in the crash, but snow Friday resulted in more than 100 other crashes across the state.

Editor's note:Troopers initially said the driver of the first vehicle was out of their car before the second car collided with it, but later said the driver was in their vehicle at the time of the collision.
