SALT LAKE CITY — LDS Church President Thomas S. Monson’s funeral services will take place at noon on Jan. 12 at the LDS Conference Center at Temple Square in Salt Lake City.
The funeral will be open to the public for people ages 8 and older, church officials announced Wednesday. People attending the funeral must be in their seats by 11:30 a.m.
A public viewing, open to all ages, will be held Thursday, Jan. 11 at the Conference Center from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Seating will be open on a first-come, first-served basis. The Conference Center seats 21,000 people.
Overflow seating will be available elsewhere at Temple Square in the Tabernacle, Assembly Hall and Conference Center Theater. The funeral will be projected on large screens at those locations.
KSL TV will broadcast the funeral live. A live stream also will be available on KSL.com, MormonNewsroom.org and LDS.org.
A private burial service will take place at the Salt Lake City Cemetery following the funeral.

Those who knew President Thomas S. Monson saw him literally give the shirt off his back. Stories about his selflessness were legion.President Monson died at 10:01 p.m. Tuesday eveningat his home in Salt Lake City, according to officials from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was 90 years old.
The 16th president of the LDS Church, Monson became president in 2008.
He became Bishop Monson of the Sixth-Seventh Ward at age 22. He began serving as a mission president in Canada at age 32. One year after his return, he was called as an apostle — a calling that requires service for life — at age 36.
Thomas Spencer Monson was born Aug. 21, 1927, in Salt Lake City to G. Spencer and Gladys Condie Monson. He had two brothers and three sisters.
In 1948, President Monson married Frances Beverly Monson in the Salt Lake Temple. She died in May 2013. The couple had three children.
