THE BOX OFFICE — 2017 is coming to a close, and being the pessimist I am, I have no interest in looking at all the blockbusters from the year because I’d much rather check out what movies totally bombed at the box office.

Now this list is not a complete science because the production budget does not include the marketing budget, which gets expensive fast. So these movies and their millions of dollars of losses are based purely on the production budget and total gross. That means it’s safe to say these movies lost even more money than is posted here.

Here are your 10 biggest box office bombs of 2017, according to data from Box Office Mojo.

A Cure for Wellness

  • Production budget: $40 million
  • Domestic gross: $8.1 million
  • Worldwide gross: $26.5 million
  • Loss: $13.5 million
Not many people know about “A Cure for Wellness” from “Pirates of the Caribbean” director Gore Verbinski — and it shows in the numbers. The movie was not well received by critics or audiences, earning just a 42 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and losing more than $13 million at the box office.

Only the Brave

  • Production budget: $38 million
  • Domestic gross: $18 million
  • Worldwide gross: $23 million
  • Loss: $15 million
This one breaks my heart. I was really hoping it wouldn’t make the list, but unfortunately, here we are.

“Only the Brave” is a fantastic film that I gave a glowing review and most critics agreed, as it earned a Rotten Tomatoes score of 88 percent. Audiences liked it even more, giving it an audience score of 93 percent. Not many people saw this fantastic movie, however, mostly because of bad marketing, and the true story of the Granite Mountain Hot Shots lost $15 million at the box office.

Tulip Fever

  • Production budget: $25 million
  • Domestic gross: $2.4 million
  • Worldwide gross: $8.3 million
  • Loss: $16.7 million
Not a lot to say about this one. The period piece “Tulip Fever” had a cast including Oscar winners Cristoph Waltz and Alicia Vikander, but the movie itself was a dud with just a 9 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as a nearly $17 million loss.

Collide

  • Production budget: $21.5 million
  • Domestic gross: $2.2 million
  • Worldwide gross: $4.8 million
  • Loss: $16.7 million
Remember “Collide”? Don’t worry no one else does either. The movie received next to no marketing, likely because the studio knew it was a mess of a film, and at the end of its theatrical run, it managed to lose $16.7 million.

Detroit

  • Production budget: $34 million
  • Domestic gross: $16.7 million
  • Worldwide gross: $16.7 million
  • Loss: $17.3 million
“Detroit” seemed like a movie poised to make a name for itself during awards season with a good cast, an Academy Award-winning director in Kathryn Bigelow, and a true story that was uncomfortably fitting for our nation's current climate. Despite all of that, however, no one went out of their way to see “Detroit” and it lost over $17 million.

LBJ

  • Production budget: $20 million
  • Domestic gross: $2.4 million
  • Worldwide gross: $2.4 million
  • Loss: $17.6 million
Woody Harrelson received a lot of buzz for his portrayal of President Lyndon B. Johnson in the biopic “LBJ.” While the movie received warm but not great reviews, audiences didn’t head to the theater to see it and the film ultimately lost $17.6 million.

Suburbicon

  • Production budget: $25 million
  • Domestic gross: $5.7 million
  • Worldwide gross: $5.7 million
  • Loss: $19.3 million
This one was a bit of surprise. “Suburbicon” starred Matt Damon and Julianne Moore and was directed by George Clooney. The movie was hammered by both audiences and critics and made less than $6 million against a $25 million budget, losing more than $19 million overall.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword

  • Production budget: $175 million
  • Domestic gross: $39.1 million
  • Worldwide gross: $148.6 million
  • Loss: $26.4 million
I’ll be the first to admit that “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword” was not a great movie, but I did think it was a fun movie, and it’s too bad it took such a thrashing at the box office. Nearly 70 percent of audiences liked the movie, but apparently not many saw it. With a staggering budget of $175 million, the movie only made $39.1 domestically. Thankfully, the worldwide box office helped out a bit, but when all was said and done, “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword” lost $26.4 million.

Monster Trucks

  • Production budget: $125 million
  • Domestic gross: $33.3 million
  • Worldwide gross: $64.4 million
  • Loss: $60.6 million
Before the movie was ever released, the production studio behind “Monster Trucks” knew they were going to take a hit at the box office. Their prediction was right, as the $125 million movie tanked and lost the studio over $60 million.

The Promise

  • Production budget: $90 million
  • Domestic gross: $8.2 million
  • Worldwide gross: $8.2 million
  • Loss: $81.8 million
You’d think “The Promise” was a small film considering most people have never heard of it, but the cast includes Christian Bale and Oscar Isaac and utilized a budget of $90 million. The film didn’t do well with critics, gaining only a 50 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, but audiences scored it at 92 percent. But unfortunately, positive audience scores didn’t help the movie make any money, as the worldwide take was only $8.2 million, accounting for an $81.8 million loss.
