RICHMOND, Cache County — A trucker died after the tanker truck he was driving went around a curve too fast and overturned Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
Emergency crews responded to a report of a crash on U.S. 89 between Ricks Spring and the turnoff to Tony Grove Lake shortly after 1:15 p.m., according to Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce. The area is about 20 miles northeast of Logan in a remote section of Logan Canyon.
Royce said a tanker truck hauling cream was traveling northbound on U.S. 89 when the driver went around the curve and overturned off the right shoulder of the road.
The driver, identified as Bruce Giddings, 60, of Logan, was pinned inside the crushed cab and was pronounced dead at the scene. Royce said Giddings was wearing a seat belt.
He said the highway was briefly closed in the canyon but has since reopened. The crash remains under investigation.
