SALT LAKE CITY — After a massive, two-year renovation project, the LDS Jordan River Temple is scheduled to reopen in May 2018.
Members of the public can tour the newly refurbished temple from Saturday, March 17 through Saturday, April 28, 2018, according to a Thursday statement from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The temple's rededication will take place on May 20, 2018, in three sessions.
After the rededication, members of the public may no longer tour the interior of the temple.
Ticket information for the open house has not been released. With past temple open houses, prospective visitors could reserve tickets online.
The entire property surrounding the Jordan River Temple and the interior "were refreshed," according to church officials, while the layout itself remains the same. Church officials said there are new furnishings, carpet, paintings and murals and upgraded landscaping around the temple.
The temple's plumbing, heating and air conditioning were all updated, resulting in better energy efficiency. There was also seismic work and waterproofing done on the temple's foundation, and the temple received a new roof.
The Jordan River Temple was originally dedicated in November 1981. It is one of 18 temples in Utah in operation or under construction. The church has 156 operating temples with 12 under construction. An additional 14 temple have been announced but have not started construction.
