EAGLE MOUNTAIN — A three-year-old girl is in critical condition after she was hit by a car at a low speed on Friday evening, officials confirmed.

The girl was hit near the 7800 block of N. Wycliffe Way just before 6:30 p.m.

Unified Fire Authority spokesman Steve Prokopis said the girl was flown to Primary Children's Hospital in critical condition.

Utah County Sheriff's Office spokesman Spencer Cannon said the girl was at a park when her mother called to her to cross the street. There was a car approaching and the mother thought the child had enough time to make it, but the child did not move as quickly as the mother expected, Cannon said.

A 23-year-old woman was driving the car that hit the child.

"We don't believe that speed was a factor or distraction or anything like that," Cannon said. "The child was standing in front of the driver without any time for her to react."

Cannon said it was too early to say whether charges would be filed on the driver. He said it did not appear that speed, negligence or distraction were factors in the crash.

Pony Express Parkway was closed briefly as a Life Flight helicopter was in the area.
