LAS VEGAS — Former Utah standout Tim Drisdom hasn’t played competitive basketball since 2008.
On Saturday, he made the most important shot of Team Utah’s early run in The Basketball Tournament.
Drisdom’s 3-pointer with one second left help Team Utah escape with a 100-97 win over Team Fredette in the opening round of The Basketball Tournament in Las Vegas.
"He's got confidence like he's had a career like Kobe Bryant," Team Utah forward and general manager Shaun Green said of Drisdom. "If he has the ball in his hands, we trust that he's going to make the right decision.
"More times than not, it turns out positive for us."
Terrence Drisdom led all scorers with 27 points and six assists, and Green added 22 points, including four 3-pointers.

Dakari Tucker scored a game-high 18 points in the first half to lead Team Utah to a 56-46 lead at the break. But Team Fredette, which was coached by former BYU star Jimmer Fredette, came back.
Team Fredette’s Jordon Crawford tied the game with a reverse layup with about one minute remaining. On the next possession, Terrence Drisdom (the brother of Tim who played at Division II Cal Poly Pomona) gave the former Utes the lead again with a 3-pointer.
Jamaal Tatum and Charles Abouo tied the game at 97-97 for Team Fredette from the free-throw line with 4 seconds remaining. But Tim Drisdom inbounded the ball on the next possession, then took it back, spotted up from a foot behind the 3-point line and buried the biggest shot of his TBT career.
Brandon Davies led Team Fredette with 20 points, seven rebounds and three assists, and Crawford finished with 19 points and five assists.
Team Utah advanced to face the winner of second-seeded Few Good Men (Gonzaga alums) and Mostly Sports Delco in Sunday’s second round in Las Vegas. The winner will travel to Brooklyn, New York, for the Super 16.
All games are broadcast on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app. The winner of the 64-team tournament earns a $2 million cash prize, divided amongst the players and certain supporters of the group.
Team Utah is comprised mostly of former Ute basketball players, with a few extra players like former West Jordan standout Terrence Drisdom. But because of late injuries, pro updates and scratches, only eight players were available for Team Utah in Saturday’s tournament opener.
The former Utes advanced to the Elite Eight of last year’s tournament before a loss to Team Colorado.
Team Fredette comes from a compendium of former teammates of Fredette, such as ex-BYU players Brandon Davies and Abouo, and Crawford, who played with Fredette for the Westchester Knicks in the NBA D-League.
