SALT LAKE CITY — Motorists should be aware of a freeway closure near Parleys Canyon before heading out this weekend, the Utah Department of Transportation said.
Westbound I-215 will close completely between Foothill Drive and the westbound I-80 junction near 2300 East. The closure will begin at 9 p.m. Friday and will last until 5 a.m. Monday, UDOT said in a news release.
An 8-mile detour is planned during the closure. Traffic will be rerouted onto eastbound I-80 at Exit 2. Motorists will continue east up Parleys Canyon to Exit 132 (Mount Aire Road), where they can turn around onto westbound I-80.
Drivers should plan ahead, expect delays in that area and avoid that section of I-215 altogether if possible, UDOT advised.
Crews will be breaking up existing concrete and putting down new asphalt as part of a major maintenance project.
UDOT also reminded motorists that I-80 is reduced to one lane in each direction on weeknights between 1300 East and the I-80/I-215 split as part of the maintenance project.
