EAGLE MOUNTAIN — A quick-thinking construction worker with a water truck helped Unified Fire Department firefighters get a brush fire extinguished quickly in Eagle Mountain Saturday afternoon.
First responders were called out to a brush fire along East Golden Eagle Road around 12:30 p.m., according to Eagle Mountain Fire Department Captain Steve Conger. When firefighters arrived, they discovered a construction worker from a nearby site had already gotten to work with a water truck.
Conger said the man had already dampened the fire down quite a bit. Their crew had the rest of the fire out in about five minutes, he said.
Shannon and Derek Lund live nearby and were concerned that the fire might spread to nearby houses.
"My concern was, oh my goodness, my neighbors house is right here," Shannon Lund said. "Mine's across the street!"
Shannon Lund shot video of the construction worker, but the man left before she could get his name or say thank you. She said his actions meant a lot to her and her husband.
"He really saved the day and I think I can speak for all of the neighbors around here who were out there at the time the scene happened in saying thank you," she said.
Fire investigators believe children playing with fire may have started the brush fire, Conger said.
No homes were damaged in the brush fire.
