SALT LAKE CITY — A Nashville sports anchor uses Legos to reenact NCAA highlights, a young fan meets his hero John Cena, and Kyrie Irving practices immediately after the game. More fun stories from the world of sports in today’s From Left Field.

Sports anchor uses Legos to reenact NCAA Tournament highlights

The NCAA is a real stickler when it comes to showing highlights of tournament games. There are regulations placed against all non-CBS stations, prohibiting them from airing highlights during a certain time frame immediately after a game has been played.

For sports anchor Eric Alvarez of Fox 17 in Nashville, he wasn’t going to let not having permission to air Elite 8 highlights from giving his viewers a full college hoops highlights experience.

Did Alvarez use actors? No. Stuffed animals? Would’ve been nice, but no.

Alvarez went with an old reliable way of reenacting sports moments: Legos.

This is what happens when we can't show NCAA hoops highlights and @PJFOX17 and @DaveFoster17 leave me unsupervised on @FOXNashville sports. pic.twitter.com/kuE479xvSu — Eric Alvarez (@FOX17Eric) March 26, 2017

Alvarez admitted made the video using things around his desk. It wasn't that bad, especially using the rubber ducky as the Oregon Ducks.

(In Lego Batman’s voice): Nicely done, Mr. Alvarez.

Kyrie Irving stayed after blowout loss to work on his game

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving is one of the NBA’s fiercest competitors. The man who hit the game-winning shot in Game 7 of last year’s NBA Finals struggled Monday night in a blowout loss to the San Antonio Spurs, only scoring eight points on the night.

Not happy about his poor performance, Irving decided not to waste any time getting a bit of practice in. After the game, Irving took to the court again and worked on his game.

Irving once said he has a “Mamba mentality” in reference to one of his heroes, Kobe Bryant. There’s no doubt staying after the game to work on your game is definitely Mamba-esque.

Kobe would be proud, Kyrie.

Young fan meets his hero, John Cena

John Cena is arguably the face of the WWE and an overall good guy, granting a record of over 500 wishes through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Once again, Cena took time after a wrestling event to meet one of his young fans.

In the video, Justin Marion tells Cena that he and his son, Payton, uses wrestling as motivation during therapy.

Marion told Cena, "You're the reason why he's able to use this arm right here." Payton then shows Cena his "wrestling arm."

In the YouTube video description box, Marion wrote:

“Ironically with the help of John Cena’s opponent in last night’s match, we got to go backstage and meet him! Oh, did I mention John Cena also threw Payton his shirt and wristband during the match!”

Pro wrestling is “sports entertainment,” but the positive impact some of their stars have on young kids for motivation is very real.
