Stockton Shorts posts 32 and 12 to lead Copper Hills boys to 5A semifinals

OGDEN — Stockton Shorts posted 32 points and 12 rebounds to lift Copper Hills’ boys basketball team to the Class 5A state semifinals with an 81-63 win Wednesday over Layton at Weber State.

Yes, you read that right.

Shorts, whose middle name is Malone, also had five assists and two steals for the Grizzlies, who got 14 points and five rebounds from Trevon Allfrey and 12 points each from Rowland Bolman and Sam Lyon.

Blake Hansen scored 18 to lead Layton, and Braxton Libby supplied 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Copper Hills will face Lone Peak in Friday’s 5A semifinals at 4:10 p.m. MT at Weber State.

Lone Peak 65, Jordan 53

At Weber State, Steven Ashworth had 16 points, five rebounds and four assists, and the Knights held Jordan scoreless in the second quarter to earn the win.

Chantry Ross added 14 points, five rebounds and four steals for Lone Peak, which got 12 points and 10 rebounds from Max McGrath.

Josh Christensen led the Beetdiggers with 15 points, including a game-high three 3-pointers.

Bingham 75, Viewmont 51

At Weber State, Lleyton Parker poured in 21 points to go with four assists and seven steals as the defending 5A champion Miners rolled the Vikings.

Utah signee Branden Carlson added 18 points and seven rebounds for Bingham, and teammate Tanner Davis had 16 points.

Jared Stringham led Viewmont with 11 points.

Bingham will face Pleasant Grove in Friday’s 5A semifinals at 2:30 p.m. MT at Weber State.

Pleasant Grove 54, West Jordan 39

At Weber State, Casey Brown led a balanced scoring effort with 19 points to help the Vikings pull away from the Jaguars and into Friday’s semifinals.

Keanu Akina added nine points for Pleasant Grove, which had eight players in the scoring column.

Darrian Nebeker had 11 points and five assists to lead West Jordan.
