TREMONTON — A Florida man was killed after the semitruck he was driving tipped over on I-84 near Tremonton Monday afternoon, police said.
Palm Springs resident, Julio Alvarez, 63, was driving a freight truck when the semi drifted into the median and rolled over around 2:50 p.m.
The driver, who was training, had drifted into the median and tried to turn the truck back to the right but overcorrected, officials said. The truck and trailer turned over on its side and the driver was killed instantly, though he was wearing his seat belt, according to the Utah Highway Patrol, who responded to the accident.
A co-driver who was doing the training was transported to a local hospital. His injuries weren't life-threatening.
Police are unsure if fatigue or distraction were an issue but do not believe speed was a factor in the crash.
