Utah has seen an impressive growth of the economy in the past decade, becoming a magnet to some of the top companies in the nation while also providing fertile ground for startups to grow. Countless publications routinely list Utah as one of the best states to do business. You could even say entrepreneurs are swarming to the Beehive State like Mormon Crickets. Why? For lots of reasons — enough to fill another article, even...

Whether you’re looking for a job or just curious about your new neighbors, here, in alphabetical order, is a list of 20 Utah companies that have seen major growth of late.

Advice Media

Advice Media is a full-service digital marketing firm, which offers web optimization for their clients’ advertising and marketing needs (mostly within the medical field). The team is comprised of writers, editors, designers, developers, programmers, digital marketing experts, social media experts, email marketing experts and support personnel. It began in Park City in 1998 and has seen recent steady growth to the tune of 1,360% since 2012, which is good enough to rank #287 on the 2016 Inc. 5000. Its 2015 revenue was $7.4 million.

Ancestry.com

The Lehi-based Internet company has a few options for those looking to dig back into the past to find information on their distant relatives. It’s as simple as adding a few family members’ names to a family tree, and then Ancestry.com searches its vast database (upwards of 16 billion historical records) to uncover as much information as possible to trace family members back several generations. They’ve also added a new intriguing option called AncestryDNA in which a simple test can be taken to analyze one’s ethnicity and trace it to certain geographical areas while offering a few potential insights into deep ancestry.

Auric Solar

West Valley City’s Auric Solar is one of the largest energy providers in the state. Auric Solar is behind Utah’s largest solar panel array project at Real Salt Lake’s Rio Tinto Stadium. The 2,020-kilowatt system of nearly 6,500 solar panels are installed on both the stadium structure and its covered parking areas. Operationally, it offsets 73 percent of Real Salt Lake's total annual stadium power needs. Auric Solar had $28.9 million in 2015 revenue and 1,521% growth since 2012, which ranks them #262 on the Inc. 5000 list for 2016 (their third time making the list).

EDGEhomes

Utah is a quickly growing population, and EDGEhomes is one of the premier home builders in the more than 30 communities across Utah’s Wasatch Front and Wasatch Back. EDGEhomes offers dozens of floor plans for its customers to personalize a home according to their needs and price ranges. They also have an array of model homes to consider prior to making any final decisions. Some styles of new homes are pre-built to allow for a quick move-in. These homes are conveniently listed on the company’s website. EDGEhomes was ranked #1622 in the 2016 Inc. 5000 and has seen a three-year growth of 232%.

Extra Space Storage

Extra Space Storage is not a new kid on the block — 2017 is the self-storage facility providers’ fortieth year in business. You’ve probably heard of them. They operate more than 1,400 stores scattered across 38 states and stand as the country’s second largest operator of self-storage facilities. After decades of growth and new acquisitions yearly, Extra Space Storage was added to the S&P 500 index. Customers can expect clean grounds and secure storage. What else could anyone want?

Jane.com

The Jane.com boutique marketplace, based out of Lehi, has sold women's clothing, home decor items accessories, and children's clothing online since its inception in 2011. It showcases high-end products from well-known companies to its customers. The selling platforms allow multiple integrations, which benefits buyers and sellers. There are deals every day from online and brick-and-mortar retailers, both large and small. Jane.com hit the 2016 Inc. 5000 ranked #263 due to a three-year growth of 1,510% coupled with a 2015 revenue of nearly $84 million.

Lancera

Founded in 2011, this Orem tech firm fuses custom software development with cybersecurity services. Lancera attempts to offer a technology experience to build, accelerate and secure business growth with results that are measurable and repeatable. Lancera brought in revenue of $5.3 million last year with a three-year growth of 2,424%. As a result, it ranked #146 on the 2016 Inc. 5000, the second consecutive year on the list for the company.

Layton Construction Company

Despite the local name and being based in Sandy, Layton Construction Company is not simply a Utah-based regional contractor. They now have offices in Idaho, Arizona, California, Tennessee, Florida and even Hawaii. All told, they are the eighth largest healthcare contractor and the sixteenth largest retail contractor in the U.S. The firm also works on hospitality, commercial offices and religious and cultural sectors, including a recently completed temple in Hartford, Connecticut, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Citing Layton Construction Company’s “strong revenue growth and innovative management strategy,” Engineering News-Record editors named the company their 2016 Intermountain Contractor of the Year.

Myriad Genetics

Myriad Genetics offers pioneering molecular diagnostics (14 different diagnostic products) with the hope of improving the quality of their patients’ lives. With expertise in DNA sequencing, RNA analysis and proteomics, Myriad Genetics provides clinically actionable information so that patients can make informed decisions. The company is headquartered both in Salt Lake City and Zurich, Switzerland, and has more than 2,500 employees in its ranks. The 2016 fiscal year brought more than $750 million in profits.

Nu Skin Enterprises

Nu Skin Enterprises was founded in 1984 in Provo and develops and sells 200+ personal care products and dietary supplements through a network of more than one million independent distributors. Distributors market the anti-aging products directly to potential customers while also attempting to recruit and train these same customers to become distributors. The popular products are marketed as being able to help people look and feel younger. It has now grown into a billion-dollar enterprise. The business encourages a core-value culture in which opportunities abound for direct sales of the skincare and wellness products.

Overstock.com

Overstock.com, headquartered in Salt Lake City, began in 1999 and strives to provide customers with high-quality products at reasonable prices. The founder, Patrick M. Byrne, quickly recognized an untapped potential in liquidating excess inventory online. Former reliance on outlet centers in distant cities with limited product selections urged him to launch the company. Overstock.com's revenue has grown from nearly $2 million in 1999 to more than $1 billion in 2013. They now have more than six million products on their site.

The Phoenix Recovery and Counseling Centers ===========================================

This Draper-based addiction recovery group offers a variety of tailored programs, ranging from full detox, inpatient and outpatient counseling, and rehab programs across the state to help patients manage the disease of addiction. The Phoenix Recovery and Counseling Centers’ mission statement is “Empowering individuals and families suffering from addiction to celebrate life through lasting solutions.” Its three-year growth is a boggling 6,545% and when coupled with its $6.7 million revenue in 2015, it ended up ranking #34 on the 2016 Inc. 5000.

PrinterLogic

PrinterLogic offers a web application for print management services to eliminate print servers, which includes pull printing and mobile printing. The St. George software company raked in $10 million revenue in 2015 and its three-year growth is 2,480%, good enough to be ranked #141 on the 2016 Inc. 5000. PrinterLogic was honored with a 2016 Pick Award as “Outstanding Enterprise Print Environment Platform” by Buyers Laboratory, the world’s leading independent evaluator of document imaging software.

Shopper Approved

Shopper Approved solicits customer reviews after purchases for its clients with the intention of providing a merchant with a fuller view of customer satisfaction, which could potentially attract more business. In some instances the reviews are shown up to seventy times the previous amount. The Ogden-based company, ranked #192 on the 2016 Inc. 5000, has grown 1,939% in the last three years. Launched in 2010, the company’s revenue was $2.7 million in 2015.

Spring Mobile

Spring Mobile, founded in 2001 in Salt Lake City with just a few cell phone mall carts, is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of GameStop. Spring Mobile serves as the premier wireless retailer for AT&T and Cricket Wireless and currently operates in more than 900 locations. The company had steady growth during its early years — enough to warrant a multi-year stadium naming-rights deal with the Salt Lake Bees minor league baseball team. The stadium was named Spring Mobile Ballpark for five seasons beginning in 2009. Spring Mobile has been named one of America's 5,000 fastest-growing private companies by Inc. Magazine, while Utah Business Magazine named it one of Utah's 50 fastest-growing private companies.

Stratton & Brätt

This Pleasant Grove landscaping design company was founded in 1976 and has expanded beyond the western U.S. — they have a worldwide reach with their often complex and difficult projects. They are a contractor for homes, city parks, spiritual centers (such as the LDS Tijuana Temple in Mexico) and corporate buildings. They are also licensed as engineers and general contractors. Stratton & Brätt is the #243 ranked company on the 2016 Inc. 5000 and has grown 1,609% since 2012 while pulling in $7.7 million in 2015 revenue.

USANA Health Sciences

USANA Health Sciences, a manufacturer of nutritional supplements and healthcare products, offers its products to customers through direct selling rather than a brick-and-mortar shop. In fact, USANA has been voted “#1 Distributor’s Choice” for Best Network Marketing Company by MLM Insider for 16 consecutive years. The supplement company has worldwide reach, operating in 18 countries: Australia, Belgium, Canada, the Caribbean, France, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Kingdom and here in the United States. Vista Outdoor, Inc.

“Bringing the World Outside” is the stated mission of Vista Outdoor, Inc., a global designer, manufacturer and marketer of consumer outdoor products. Vista Outdoor, Inc. is a spin-off from Alliant Techsystems Inc., a commercial sporting company in the outdoor recreation market. The company uses well-recognized and trusted brands such as Bushnell, Speer, Savage Arms and Federal Premium among others. Clientele includes the military, shooting enthusiasts, hunters and various law enforcement agencies. The Farmington-based company offers a wide range of products: sporting ammunition and firearms, cycling accessories, outdoor cooking solutions, hydration systems, performance eyewear, action sports helmets, goggles — nearly anything an outdoor enthusiast would desire.

Vivint

Vivint is a home technology and service provider with more than one million customers throughout the U.S. and Canada. Their goal is “to help customers create a smarter home with intelligently designed products that simplify their lives.” Vivint offers home security, energy management, home automation, local cloud storage, and high-speed Internet. Vivint was one of only 500 U.S. companies to make the inaugural Forbes list of “America’s Best Employers.” Provo-based Vivint was also the top-ranked security and home automation company on the same list. Right before Halloween in 2015, Vivint secured a 10-year naming rights contract with the arena of the NBA’s Utah Jazz. The arena was renamed the Vivint SmartHome Arena.

Zurixx

Zurixx partners with internationally known celebrities from networks like ABC, A&E and HGTV in an attempt to help them monetize their fame by way of financial and real-estate seminars. They specialize in curriculum development for these educational seminars, leadership summits and business workshops. The Cottonwood Heights company has a staggering three-year growth of 5,626% with $130 million in revenue, good enough to rank #43 on the 2016 Inc. 5000. Zurixx’s philosophy? “On average, people are average. We strive to make people extraordinary.”
