PROVO — BYU fans have seen quarterback Taysom Hill put on his uniform for the last time.

Hill, who suffered the fourth season-ending injury of his five-year career Saturday night in the Cougars’ 28-10 win over Utah State, suffered a left-elbow strain that will keep him out of BYU's postseason contest at the Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego, BYU announced Monday.

Hill finishes his prolific BYU career with 6,929 passing yards and 2,815 rushing yards, ranking fourth in school history and just ahead of former BYU great Jim McMahon. His 75 total touchdowns ranks fifth all-time in BYU history, just ahead of former Cougar signal caller Steve Young, and he has the most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in program history.

Tanner Mangum will be the presumed quarterback for BYU’s bowl game Dec. 21 in San Diego. The Cougars qualified for the Poinsettia Bowl with an 8-4 record, finishing the season strong after a 1-3 start to the year.

Tributes for Hill began pouring in as soon as he injured his elbow Saturday night.

Hill was injured on the Cougars’ first drive of the fourth quarter when he attempted to leap over Utah State defender Gaje Ferguson on a 12-yard run near the goal line. But when the Pocatello, Idaho native landed on his left elbow, he immediately jumped up with a pained look and grabbing his arm.

Among Hill’s four season-ending injuries, three of them have come against the Aggies. In 2012, he injured his knee near the end of the Cougars’ 6-3 win in Provo. Two years later, former Utah State safety Brian Suite tackled Hill during the Aggies’ 35-20 win in Provo and broke the quarterback’s leg.

Hill’s only other injury came in the season opener in 2015 when he suffered a Lisfranc injury in his foot during the Cougars’ season-opening victory at Nebraska. He was awarded a fifth-year medical redshirt by the NCAA last spring, and returned to lead BYU with 2,323 passing yards, 12 touchdowns and 11 interceptions to go along with 603 rushing yards and eight scores. His 32 career rushing touchdowns ranks sixth in BYU history, just ahead of Lakei Heimuli.
