SALT LAKE CITY — It’s not easy to get out of bed and tackle responsibilities on a Monday, but there are good things about this rainy day.

For instance, the countdown to Thanksgiving is now just three days and KSL.com’s Make Your Week is ready for reading. In this weekly column, we feature uplifting stories from people outside our newsroom.

A special Thanksgiving dinner

Davis S.

"Nov. 16 at 6:30 p.m., the young men and young women from our ward hosted a Thanksgiving dinner for the refugees of the South Sudanese community in Utah. It wasn’t a handout, but a coming together of two communities. Just like the Pilgrims and the Native Americans, our two communities both brought our own native dishes and shared song and dance with each other."

A caring husband

CJ S.

“Nov. 17, my 3-year-old was standing alone and sad when my husband picked her up from preschool. She said, ‘I just missed you and mommy, and I don’t like this school anymore.’ When my husband told me, I was wracked with guilt — I am a full-time working mom. I was already feeling bad about not being able to be home with my kids more, and this just pushed me over the edge. My husband could tell how sad it made me feel.

“The next day, my husband unexpectedly stopped by my work and dropped off a gift — two flowers and a piece of candy, with a note (see photo). Our two girls each have flower names, and we have a little boy, and he had brought me the gift to help me through my working mom guilt! What an amazing man!”
