WEST VALLEY CITY — A man in his 70s died in a rollover accident on state Route 201 in West Valley City early Thursday.

The man was headed east around 4 a.m. when he lost control of his vehicle near 4800 West, hit a barrier and rolled, according to Utah Highway Patrol. The vehicle ended up on its top in the middle of the traffic lanes.

The man's name has not yet been released pending notification of family.

He was not wearing a seatbelt, according to Lt. Beau Mason of UHP.

"Had he been wearing his seatbelt, his injuries would have been much less severe," Mason said.

The crash closed state Route 201 for about three hours. The road reopened before 8 a.m.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
