THESPIAN HEADQUARTERS — For Utahns who are craving a night at the theater with their families, they’ve come to the right place.

Musical theatre and plays are available all across the state, and there are plenty of options that are safe for family members of all ages. Here are six stage productions playing this year that will be fun for the family.

The Importance of Being Earnest

Oct. 28-Nov. 12, BYU Theatre

This classic comedy by Oscar Wilde tells the story of the double lives of two well-to-do gentlemen who find unexpected turns in the effort to escape their everyday lives. The show, produced by BYU Theatre, will have its first showing on Oct. 28 and will have its last on Nov. 12. An American Sign Language Interpreted performance will take place on Nov. 3.

Sister Act

Oct. 12-Dec. 3, Hale Centre Theatre

This smash hit is making its local premiere in Utah. Inspired by the movie starring Whoopi Goldberg, this musical takes the audience along with an abbey of nuns as they discover soul music. Sister Act is about 2 1/2 hours long with an intermission. Admission for adults is $32 and $16 for children over the age of 5. No children under 5 are permitted.

Disney’s High School Musical Jr.

Nov. 8-10, Hale Centre Theatre

Based on the Disney Channel Original, the musical about high school students facing daily pressure to fit in and dancing to the beat of their own drum will be portrayed by more than 30 of Hale Centre Theatre’s student performers ages 18 and under. Admission for adults is $12 and $10 for children ages 5-11. No children under 5 are permitted.

The Nerd

Dec. 31-Feb. 4, Hale Centre Theatre

This two-act comedy tells the story of how a young architect navigates a comedic dilemma with his awkward manner and behavior. Celebrate the new year by seeing a hilarious comedy with friends and family. Admission for adults is $34 and $18 for children over the age of 5.

Peter Pan

Nov. 25-Dec. 17, Empress Theatre, Magna

A beloved family favorite, Peter Pan is a Tony Award-winning musical that has been performed around the world for over 60 years. Watch Peter and his sidekick Tinkerbell take the Darling children on an adventure of a lifetime in Neverland. Standard pricing for tickets is $10.

The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged)

Oct. 6-Nov. 5, St. George Musical Theater

Come and see the abridged works of one of the most famous playwrights of all time at the St. George Musical Theater. This play parodies and merges the plays of Shakespeare into one show with three actors. Tickets run between $17 and $21 and the show plays on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays.
