LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON — It would be so easy to give up and go back downhill, instead of peddling, breathing, pounding and peddling.

But with colors like what one can see in Little Cottonwood Canyon right now, Jen Hillam had to keep peddling.

"It's just been incredible the whole week,” said Hillam. “I think that's what gets you out here in the first place, so why not just keep going?"

Especially when it might be even prettier just a little ways up.

"I came around the corner and there's this big beautiful rainbow going across the sky from mountain to mountain and that was enough, OK, I gotta keep going,” said Hillam with a laugh.

Lots of people pulled over to take a picture of that rainbow.

"That had every color in the spectrum end to end,” said Dawn Berbert, who came up the canyon from her home in South Jordan with her friend to take fall color pictures.

“I’ve taken plenty of rainbow shots, but I haven’t seen one with such deep purples,” said Eric Harker, who lives in Sandy.

But for as beautiful as the yellows, oranges and reds are, if one wants a picture of them, he or she better get up the canyon as soon as possible because there's another color coming.

"The snow does add a whole new dimension,” said Harker. “I would love to get some fall colors shots with the snow.”

That's right. He said snow.

Upper elevation mountain peaks could get some in the next couple of days.

"I was thinking today is probably the last day for a lot of these leaves so, they're going to be dropping,” said Berbert.

That's why a lot of people were up the canyons Wednesday taking pictures, enjoying every splash of color before they’re gone.

"It's unbelievable. It's short and sweet, but it just makes any outdoor adventure that much better,” said Hillam.
