PLEASANT GROVE — On the night of Pleasant Grove Vikings’ homecoming game Friday, Lone Peak Knights looked to establish itself as a top team after losing the week prior to Bingham, the top team in the state.

The Knights did just that by spoiling the Vikings' homecoming 41-15, thanks to 38 unanswered points. Quarterback Dakota Hansen threw for two scores and rushed for two more in leading the Knights to the lopsided victory.

Lone Peak struck first with a 24-yard field goal by Thomas Rossi. The Vikings responded with a 20-yard touchdown pass from Jake Jensen to Dayne Christensen to take the 7-3 lead, and that's where the score stood at the end of the first quarter.

Lone Peak, however, broke the game open with a 21-point second quarter starting with a Tyler MacPherson 17-yard touchdown catch from Hansen. With three minutes left in the first half things slanted heavy for the Knights.

A blocked punt and an interception gave the Knights two quick scores with a Hansen 1-yard run and another MacPherson catch — this time a 9-yarder from Hansen.

The score jumped from a three-point lead to a 24-7 Lone Peak advantage in a three-minute span from bad turnovers by the Vikings.

The Vikings' second drive in the second half ended in a fumble on the first play, setting up the Knights in the Vikings' red zone. Hansen punched it in from 3 yards out for his second rushing touchdown of the game to increase the lead to 31-7.

The Vikings, now down by a significant number came back hard, pushed their way down the field and got to the Knights' 4-yard-line on second down, but they were unable to move the ball forward as three incomplete passes led to a turnover on downs.

The fourth quarter began with the Knights' Jaxson Harward intercepting a PG screen pass and taking it 40 yards for a touchdown. The next Lone Peak drive ended in a 34-yard field goal by Rossi, making the score 41-7 and capping a run of 38 unanswered points.

The Vikings found their fire again and drove down the field with the help of several penalties against the Lone Peak defense. This drive ended in a touchdown on a 3-yard pass over the middle to Tai Kauwe from Jake Jensen, giving him his second touchdown pass of the night. The extra point was a trick play where Easton Casper kept the snap and threw for the two-point conversion.

Lone Peak (3-1) is back in action next Friday when it hosts Riverton (0-4), while Pleasant Grove (1-3) travels to Lehi (3-1).
