HOLLADAY — Admit it, whenever you see a photo booth, you’re strongly tempted to use it.

Even though we live in an age where we can take photos and selfies quickly and infinitely (or until our phones run out of batteries), there’s still something completely magical about photo booths. For whatever reason, those four quick photos feel nostalgic and timeless at the same time.

Perhaps in an effort to catch that mystique, local artist Natalie Allsup-Edwards started The Hand Drawn Photo Booth in 2011. She created an actual booth that she sits in while participants sit in front of the “camera” and hold four poses while she draws. The whole process takes about three to five minutes, and the results are dreamy and delightful.

Local filmmaker Steve Olpinfilmed the process at this year’s Blue Moon Festival in Holladay, and he posted the mini documentary on his YouTube channel, The Talking Fly. It showcases how the project is part fine arts and part performing arts as the artist interacts joyfully with the participants.

Basically, if you're anything like me, you're going to want your own handdrawn photo booth art immediatly upon finishing the video.

Allsup-Edwards has expanded the project since its inception, and more artists are now involved to help share the goodness. You can book one of the artists to come to your event by visiting The Hand Drawn Photo Booth’s website.
