SOUTH JORDAN — Police believe tree vandals wanted in West Jordan have continued their destructive spree in South Jordan.

Sometime between Thursday night and Friday morning, South Jordan police say 23 trees worth an estimated $7,000 were damaged in the area of 3200 West and 9800 South.

The incident comes on the heels of similar destruction in West Jordan.

Since July 24, more than 60 trees have been damaged along of 2200 West from 7800 South to 9000 South, including in Veterans Memorial Park, causing an estimated $40,000 in damage, according to West Jordan police.

The vandalism involves new trees that are about 2 to 3 inches in diameter, and branches off larger trees with about the same diameter, according to police. The younger trees are being broken at the base and will have to be replaced, according to police.

The suspects appear to be using their bare hands to break the trees, West Jordan police said.
