SAN JOSE — Future Ute gymnast MyKayla Skinner's dream of being selected to the 2016 U.S. Women's Gymnastics Team is one meet away from becoming a reality.

At the halfway point of the U.S. Women's Gymnastics Olympic Trials, Skinner rests in fourth place. Her 59.450 all-around score on Friday night falls behind gold-medal favorite Simone Biles (61.850), Laurie Hernandez (60.850) and Aly Raisman (59.950). The 19-year-old's score was 1.70 points higher than her best of two at the P&G Championships a couple weeks ago.

Skinner, who deferred a year of enrollment at the University of Utah for a run at the Olympics, is one of 14 other gymnasts competing for a place on the team.

Should she make the team, the Arizona native is slated to make the biggest impact on vault and floor, where she finished second and fifth overall, respectively. Skinner also placed fourth on beam and 12th on bars.

The second half of the Trials takes place Sunday, July 10, and will air live on NBC at 6:30 p.m. MT. The U.S. Selection Committee will select a five-woman team and three alternates following Sunday's meet.
