OGDEN — Detectives found the missing Mormon sister missionary Wednesday afternoon, about 40 hours after she disappeared.

Sister Heeji Nada Kang, 20, disappeared Monday night and was located at about 1:40 p.m. on the 700 block of Washington Boulevard, where she was with two friends who provided her with a place to stay, Ogden Police Lt. Tim Scott said.

Kang agreed to leave with the detectives and was reunited with family members.

"She is healthy," Ogden Police Lt. Danielle Croyle said.

Scott said detectives used Kang's contacts and photos on her iPad to track people she knew, which led them to the area where she was found. Kang's mission companions were helpful identifying the people in the photos. A specific tip led police to the exact location where she was located.

The LDS Church had called for the public's help to locate her, and Scott said police were grateful to receive a large number of tips.

"It was a combination of a lot of tips and good old-fashioned police work," he said.

"We are grateful to confirm that Sister Heeji Nada Kang has been found and is safe and unharmed," church spokesman Eric Hawkins said. "We express our sincere thanks to all those who helped locate her."

The search for Kang on Wednesday included missionaries from several Utah missions of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, church security personnel, local church families and multiple Ogden police detectives, Croyle said.

Kang is from The Woodlands, Texas, and was serving in the Utah Ogden Mission. She had been seen last between 9:30 and 10 p.m. Monday on foot in the area of 30th Street and Adams Avenue (500 East) near the home where she was living with her mission companion.

Kang was emotionally distressed and upset about something when she left, Croyle said.
