Elderly woman killed in possible DUI accident

SALT LAKE CITY — One person died and two others were injured in a traffic accident late Monday night in Salt Lake County.

Two cars were traveling north on Wasatch Boulevard around 10:30 p.m. when one of them slowed to make a turn near 6800 South, according to Lt. Mark Askerlund of the Cottonwood Heights Police Department.

An SUV then ran into the back of the slowing car.

An elderly woman sitting in the back seat of the lead car was killed in the crash. Two more adults in the cars were injured and taken to a hospital in serious and critical conditions.

The man driving the SUV was not injured. Police took him into custody for investigation of DUI.

The name of the deceased has not yet been released.
