Longboarder shot, killed in road rage incident, police say

A road rage incident led to the fatal shooting of a man Saturday afternoon in West Valley City, police said.

The shooting occurred near 3500 South and 5600 West just before 2 p.m., according to West Valley City police Lt. Dalan Taylor. An adult male was riding his longboard traveling northbound along 5600 West when he had an altercation with two men in a vehicle pulling a trailer. The vehicle was stopped at a red light at 3500 South during the verbal altercation, and both men got out of the vehicle during the argument, Taylor said.

UTA employee Kay Ricks remembered as 'endlessly forgiving'

Several hundred friends, family members and co-workers gathered at an LDS Chapel in American Fork to honor the life of Kay Ricks, a husband, father, faithful member of the church, handyman and UTA employee who was found dead on a dirt road outside Kemmerer, Wyoming after he and his UTA truck vanished on May 12.

The 25-year-old woman was hiking at Lisa Falls on Sunday afternoon when she slipped and fell about 4:45 p.m., Unified police detective Ken Hansen said. Police say she sustained neck and head injuries.

Utah baseball clinches Pac-12 title in 21-7 win over Washington ===============================================================

Utah baseball clinched the outright Pac-12 championship Sunday, beating the Washington Huskies 21-7 in the final game of a three-game series to end the regular season.

With the win, Utah clinches an at-large bid to the NCAA regionals and is the first men’s team at the University of Utah to win a Pac-12 championship since joining the league.

WAC title in hand, Wolverines return to Utah to await NCAA Regional fate ========================================================================

Utah Valley (37-21) advanced to its first-ever NCAA Regional with a 4-0 win over Seattle in the WAC Tournament championship game late Saturday night, thanks in large part to an outfielder Craig Brinkerhoff from Kanab.

American Fork 'plays from ahead' to capture 5A baseball title =============================================================

Mick Madsen pitched five innings with six strikeouts and just two walks, and American Fork scored five runs in the bottom of the first to hold off rival Lone Peak, 13-9 in the Class 5A state championship at Brent Brown Ballpark at Utah Valley University.

Viewmont boys capture first 5A soccer title in 21 years =======================================================

Kason Larsen’s uncle Josh was on the 1995 state title-winning boys soccer team for Viewmont, the last time the Vikings took home the ultimate prize in Class 5A.

With one opportunistic blast, he left his mark on the Vikings’ latest triumph.

Larsen’s opportunistic goal equalized for Viewmont at 2-2, and Drake Cook scored twice to lead the Vikings to their first championship in 21 years with a 4-2 victory over Fremont in the 5A championship match Thursday at Juan Diego Catholic High School.

Walk-off home run gives Riverton comeback for 5A softball title ===============================================================

The over three-hour prize fight featured over-the-wall catches, a massive comeback, significant umpiring controversy and some fantastic fielding.

And best of all, a walk-off home run tied the bow. Somehow, Riverton overcame yet another massive deficit to win the 5A state softball championship, 13-11.
