SALT LAKE CITY — The Roundhouse restaurant at Solitude Mountain Resort went up in flames Friday afternoon, causing problems for firefighters who had at first had no water access at the building, fire authorities said.
Firefighters made access to the restaurant by snowmobile but initially had no way to get water there, according to Unified Fire Authority spokesman David Ulibarri.
The fire broke out around 3:30 p.m. "just up the hill" from the main entrance of the resort, according to Ulibarri. Firefighters eventually got water from an external pipe connected to the building's culinary line, he said.
Because no fire hoses were being used, progress on the blaze was slow, Ulibarri said.
About 15 firefighters doused the fire by 7:40 p.m. The Roundhouse wasn't considered a total loss, but the exact amount of damage done was still being assessed Friday night, Ulibarri said.
Nobody was inside the restaurant Friday evening, and no other buildings were threatened, the spokesman said. He said the cause of the fire was unknown Friday night, but that it wasn't believed to be suspicious.
Firefighters planned to resume their investigation Saturday morning.
Solitude Resort said in a statement posted Friday to Instagram that the Roundhouse, which offers "Himalayan and Wasatch-inspired comfort food," is in a 60-year-old building located between the Eagle Express and Moonbeam chairlifts. It is closed for the resort's winter season, which is still ongoing, according to the statement.
