SALT LAKE CITY — A man who police say attacked his girlfriend with a hammer and threatened to bury her in the backyard was charged Friday with attempted murder.

Earon William Edward Lisenbee, 33, of Salt Lake City, was charged in 3rd District Court with attempted murder and aggravated kidnapping, both first-degree felonies; mayhem, a second-degree felony; assault on a police officer, a class A misdemeanor; and assault, a class B misdemeanor.

On April 14, Salt Lake police were called to 555 S. 900 East where Lisenbee had reportedly "hit his girlfriend in the face with a hammer" and "was going to bury his girlfriend in the backyard," according to charging documents.

No one answered the door when officers arrived at the house. After investigators "pinged" Lisenbee's cellphone and determined it was inside the house, they forced entry and found both Lisenbee and his girlfriend lying on the floor, the charges state.

Lisenbee "refused to follow commands and fought with officers," the charges state. One officer suffered a knee injury while attempting to arrest him.

After the woman was taken to the hospital, Lisenbee continued to call out to her, according to police. When officers told him that she was gone, Lisenbee asked what that meant and was told she was taken to the hospital.

"Oh, she's alive," Lisenbee replied, according to the charges.

The woman — who suffered multiple facial fractures, orbital fractures, had seven teeth knocked out and suffered broken fingers and hands — later told police she had been in an argument with Lisenbee and when she attempted to leave, he hit her several times to the point that she went unconscious, the charges state.

In 2014, Lisenbee was convicted of two reduced counts of attempted assault by a prisoner. He was convicted of assault against a police officer in 2013, assault in 2011 and simple assault in 2007, according to court records.
