MOAB — Police identified a man Thursday who was killed in a head-on collision along state Route 191 Tuesday night.

The accident occurred along state Route 191 about 10 miles south of Moab around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to Utah Highway Patrol.

La Sal resident, 68-year-old Stephen Barnett, was driving a 2006 Dodge Durango southbound behind a semitruck and began passing the slower-moving vehicle in a double-lane passing zone.

While passing the semitruck, Barnett drifted over too far and crossed into the northbound lane where it was hit head-on by an oncoming semitruck, UHP said.

Barnett was killed on impact and the passenger of his vehicle was airlifted to a Grand Junction hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The occupants of the semitruck received minor injuries during the collision.
