Some people are just gifted at gift giving. Each special occasion throughout the year is another fun opportunity for them to show how much they care. And their recipients? They always glow with genuine gratitude.

If you're not one of these people, then Valentine's Day is just another holiday full of "will they like it?" racing through your mind.

Here are some tips to choosing the right gift for your valentine.

She sees herself as you see her

If you have always loved to take pictures of your time together, you may have a favorite shot of her that "says it all" about how you see her. She may be looking contemplative, making a silly face or holding one of your children. Purchase a good-quality print of the picture and put it in a nice frame or make the frame yourself. Looking at herself and knowing that's how you love to see her will likely not just make her day, but give her a boost every time she needs it.

He'll use it right away

That new, more accurate stud sensor (you can both get a little laugh out of that) or heated steering-wheel cover for his car may drive your honey straight out to the garage to test it out.

He'll share a picture of it on social media

If your Romeo is a baseball fanatic and you found a signed ball from one of his favorite players on eBay, he's probably going to post a picture of the new treasure right away on Facebook or Instagram.

She'll call her best friend to tell her what she got

Truisms are true for a reason. Diamonds — and other kinds of jewelry — can be a girl's best friend. At least a little sparkle on her ears or neck will make her eyes sparkle more. As soon as that new finery is in place, she'll pick up the phone to tell her (other) best friend about what a great partner you are. It might help to secretly call that same BFF ahead of time and ask what kinds of jewelry your sweetheart likes best.

Shopping or creating has brought back good memories

Sometimes, making your loved one happy is as simple as reminding him of a sweet or fun moment or day you shared when getting to know each other. Did you go ice-skating on your third date where you knew you were falling for each other? Find a rink and plan an evening together.

You've smiled a lot thinking about how she'll react

If she's been dreaming of a weekend spa or yoga getaway and you've saved the funds for it, you've likely been grinning in the weeks leading to Valentine's Day. Just hope she hasn't noticed and kept asking why you're smiling more than usual.

You've learned about her by talking to friends and family for ideas

Going back in time can make your sweetheart happy, too. Talk to her mom, dad, siblings or childhood friends (troll her Facebook pals) to find a useful nugget of information. Maybe there was a local ice cream shop that made the best mint chip ever. (Believe it or not, it's possible to ship ice cream across the country.) Or maybe try your hand at quilting and recreate her childhood blanket.

Not everyone is gifted at gift giving, but if what you are giving has meaning to your valentine, then you're sure to have a successful Valentine's day.
