SALT LAKE CITY — As a freshman, Britain Covey was one of the biggest surprises to the Utah football team. Covey led the team in receiving yards, despite injury, and was an integral part to Utah's 10-win season.
Covey, though, will take a two-year hiatus as he prepares to leave for a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. On Wednesday, Covey received his mission call to the Chile Rancagua mission.
Called to serve as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints! Assigned to labor in the Chile Rancagua mission!!!🇨🇱

BYU quarterback Tanner Mangum, who also served a two-year mission in Chile, was one of many athletes and friends offering Covey a congratulations.

Covey is expected to return to Utah at the start of the 2018 season, where he will enter his sophomore year. Covey injured his ankle in the latter part of the season and was limited in Utah's bowl win over in-state rival BYU.
