MEMPHIS, Tenn. (NBC) — Residents of a neighborhood near May Street and Chelsea Avenue are battling an enormous spider infestation — one they say looks like a "horror movie."

The nearly half-mile expanse of webs looks like frost, covering the grass across the road from several homes. Video shot by local TV station WMC Action News 5 shows thousands of little spiders floating along webs.

Efforts to get rid of the spiders by neighbors Frances Ward, Debra Lewis and Ida Morris are slow-moving.

"You can't even sit in her house because they're all on the wall, on the door. We been killing spiders for about an hour now," Lewis told WMC News.

But Memphis zoo curator Steve Reichling said the spiders aren't dangerous, and these residents have no need to be concerned.

"In fields and meadows, there are often literally millions of spiders doing their thing, unseen and unappreciated by us," Reichling told WMC News.

These ones just happen to be making their presence known.
